Although plants are only half the job, here at Oglewood Avenue you’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on with your passion for houseplants and our community! We pot and provide excellent plant knowledge in-store, we restock our boutique with fresh tropicals weekly and host workshops, community events, mobile pop-ups, and markets instructed by our own team members!

Nice to Meet You!!! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to apply for our shop manager position. Here is what Oglewood Avenue is all about…We are a modern houseplant boutique, whose goal is to “make all people, plant people.” We take pride in the experience we provide our clients, creating Oglewood Avenue as a personal experience rather than a standard customer transaction. We do this by creating:
1. Environment: Creating a positive environment and uplifting atmosphere, where our clients can browse plants and feel at home while doing so. We want our clients to feel like a family, creating the personal connection they can’t get at any other establishment.
2. Education: We are expected to provide tons of information about our products, to ensure our clients get the best education on their purchases. We become plant experts, which means we are always researching, learning, and sharing. We build our clients’ confidence through education, making sure each and every individual walks out our doors feeling satisfied with their new purchase.
3. Healthy-happy houseplants: We take pride in the quality and appearance of the plants we provide in the store. This means we are constantly watering, wiping down leaves, pruning, inspecting foliage, and keeping our displays clean and presentable. If all of this sounds right up your alley, let us continue!
This is our ideal candidate. You are…
- An excited, hardworking, and proactive plant and people lover! You have at least 2-3 years of retail experience, – providing excellent customer service, meeting store merchandising standards, and providing an outstanding customer experience for our plant parents. You are able to work independently, taking ownership of your store environment and meeting our expectations with a scheduled task. You are committed to the growth of the Oglewood Avenue brand and are generally excited about plants and botany.
The Shop Manager….
- Execute the vision of Oglewood Avenue set out by the company’s standards and direction.
- Creating a customer experience specifically designed for the Oglewood customer. Not limited to engaging customers in light and friendly rapport and creating a hospitable experience by offering complimentary services such as offering engaging conversations, potting services, plant knowledge and education services daily.
- Excels in the management of the Oglewood social media. Including, but not limited to: posting and developing a curated feed, creating engaging stories, and interacting with other pages to create relationships and increased visibility.
- Style, clean, and organize display shelves/ tables to the minimal/modern Oglewood aesthetic standards.
- Monitors customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts. Ask engaging questions, recommend plants based on home, compliment customers, etc
- Execute the vision of Oglewood Avenue set out by the company’s standards and direction.
- Creating a customer experience specifically designed for the Oglewood customer. Not limited to engaging customers in light and friendly rapport and creating a hospitable experience by offering complimentary services such as offering engaging conversations, potting services, plant knowledge and education services daily.
- Has detailed knowledge of plants and their care, and any remedies for struggling plants.
- Represents the company at local markets, events, and pop-up shops in a satisfactory and presentable manner. Is a brand ambassador who proudly represents the company throughout the Knoxville community, creating connections for partnerships & collaborations with other local and small businesses in our area.
- Actively pursues large business sales by targeting other businesses, real estate agents, apartment complexes, etc. for plant installations, plant up-keep, and rentals
- Leading scheduled plant-based workshops. This may fall outside of the store’s normal operating hours.
- Taking the lead unboxing, unloading, and labeling plants when a plant truck arrives with the team. This may fall outside of the store’s normal operating hours.
- Educate Oglewood patrons on general plant care and product information to help encourage informed decisions. Keeping UTD to new plant products, care, and tips with each plant.
- Manage and post on social media platforms to promote and market products and store events when working.
- Update and maintenance of plant inventory in and out, keeping an up-to-date excel sheet on when to water, prune, and insecticide plants in-house. Keeping up to date with
- Maintenance services on vendor locations and plant upkeep with partnerships. This may fall outside of the store’s normal operating hours.
- Keep the shop in working and clean order, not limited to: general household tasks such as sweeping, mopping, box removal/break-down, plant watering, pruning, checking for pests, and trash removal.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure that all purchases are approved and within the budget of operating costs.
- Manage inventory of plants coming in, label, and keep track of plant inventory. Including, but not limited to plants, pots, plant accessories, etc
- Manage and handle all cash transactions and balance cash drawers nightly and daily.
- Manage customer complaints and manage the store’s reputation to remedy.
- Plan and execute in-store promotional events and displays.
- Recruit, train and supervise all Oglewood part-time employees.
- Assigns and creates weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly schedules for all part-time employees. Remedy any scheduling conflicts among part time employees in a fair and reasonable manner.
- Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Lifting up to 50lbs may be required as part of the job and may at times require physical labor including, but not limited to: carrying and unpacking boxes, stock shelves, breaking down boxes, carrying plants, potting plants, etc.
- Complete opening, closing, downtime, and route checklist on a daily basis.
- Communicate with Owner & assistant manager on a weekly basis with any and all points bulleted above.

This means we are constantly watering, wiping down leaves, pruning, checking and inspecting foliage, and keeping our displays nice and clean. The Retail Sales Associate….
- Executes the vision and embodies the mission of Oglewood Avenue set out by the company’s standards and direction.
- Creates a customer experience specifically designed for the Oglewood customer, including engaging customers in light and friendly rapport and creating a hospitable experience by offering complimentary services such as offering ideal plant suggestions, complimentary potting, and education services daily. We want you to engage with our customers asking about their day and making real genuine connections with those around you.
- Styles, merchandises, and organizes displays to create an impactful shopping experience with an interior design forefront.
- Monitors customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts and plant desires.
- Represents the brand positively at any pop-ups and markets we task you with.
- Educates Oglewood customers on general plant care and product information. Keeping up to date on the education of new plant arrivals to continue to provide correct and helpful information.
- Keeps the shop in working and clean order, including: general household tasks such as sweeping, mopping, box removal/break-down, and trash removal. Keep plants in order by watering plants by their needs, watching for pests and inspecting daily, pruning, potting and repotting plants, and keeping up to date on inventory.
- Manages customer complaints and problem solutions to protect the store’s reputation and customer experience.
- Is able to lift up to 50lbs and understands that the job sometimes requires physical labor, including, but not limited to: carrying and unpacking boxes, stocking shelves, breaking down boxes, carrying plants, potting plants, etc.
- Works in partnership with the Owner to keep the store staffed, clean, safe, welcoming, and representative of the Oglewood brand. Engages well with the team and has a positive attitude when working, being a team player, and working well with others.
- Other duties as assigned. Oglewood Avenue reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
- This is a part-time job! We want to know if these hours work for you. You will be working 8 to 20 hours a week. You must be willing to work at least two days a week including weekdays, weekends, and evenings if your schedule permits.
